After looking at the announcement of the bands last week for the annual Rock on the Range festival, and not having one strong reaction or another- it was time to have a festival where the headliner is actually a big ass band.
After dropping some hints on their website last week, Metallica announced their own two day festival on February 7th. The "Orion" festival, as it is being called will take place June 23rd and 24th in the always wild and seedy Atlantic City for two days of some actually diverse music.
Instead of sticking with strictly rock radio bands of the moment- the "Orion" fest serves is a wide ranging group of bands that might make some people scratch their heads and make others perk up some interest. Beyond having big name rockers Avenged Sevenfold and stoner rockers the Sword, the festival picks up a lot of alt-rock and indie rock bands, ranging from Jersey natives the Gaslight Anthem, Modest Mouse and the Arctic Monkeys. If you ever wanted to see Cage the Elephant and Metallica play the same stage, this is your chance.
And for fans of the headliner, Metallica, one of the nights will feature the band playing their infamous "Black Album" in it's entirety- don't know which night that will be just yet. As long as they aren't playing their bizarre album "Lulu" in it's entirety, the festival will be just fine.
The "Orion" Festival will take place once again on June 23th and 24th at Bader Field in Atlantic City. 2 Day Passes runs $125 and are available at www.orionmusicandmore.com.
